High School Academics
Curriculum that Unlocks Possibility
At California Virtual Academies (CAVA), we know success is not a single destination, and the journey can take many turns. But no matter the path, we believe in unlocking every learner’s potential by meeting them where they are and helping them reach their goals.
Preparing Students for Their Future
CAVA’s academic staff use a variety of K12 courses and tools to help students identify future goals and chart paths to achieve those goals. Students who are preparing for college may select from a robust course catalog and receive support from amazing teachers and guidance department to help prepare them for their next adventure. Students who may not be preparing for a university are also provided with various courses and opportunities to help them explore career options and develop a plan for their unique adventure.
Explore Our Courses
As students move through middle school and into high school, their work becomes increasingly independent. High school courses are designed for students targeting a four-year university, a local community college, or an immediate career.
Many high school courses are offered at three levels: on-level, honors, and Advanced Placement® (AP®).
In all three course levels, students:
- Learn grade-level content
- Complete coursework that might require writing or
research projects - Tackle problems that require analytical thinking
In honors courses, students also:
- Evaluate and synthesize information
- Demonstrate more advanced writing skills
- Participate in honors projects
In AP® courses, students prepare to take the AP® exam in a particular subject. Their AP® exam score may allow them to receive college credit, as determined by the college.
Student athletes should be aware that currently the courses utilized by the California Virtual Academies do not meet NCAA eligibility. While the California Virtual Academies continue to work with the NCAA to amend this, we are not aware of when/if this will occur.
Preparing High School Students for College and Career
Your teen can gain a competitive edge for the future—whether that includes college, a career, or both. Our students can explore career options and participate in specialized, career-related experiences. Students can choose from a broad range of courses in these industry sectors: Arts, Media, & Entertainment; Business & Finance; Health Science & Medical Technology; Information & Communication Technologies; Marketing, Sales & Services, and Public Services. They can also prepare for potential pathway certifications upon graduation.**
Get a Head Start by Earning College Credits Now
CAVA has partnered with Norco College to offer the CAVA2College Program. The purpose of the Cava2College initiative is to provide eligible CAVA high school students an opportunity to experience high quality teaching and learning in selected virtual college courses to begin their journey toward achievement of an associate degree and/or earn transferable credits to four-year universities. Students will be enrolled in courses that meet both high school and college requirements, allowing them the opportunity to earn dual credits.
Students who have successfully completed 10th grade (or higher) and meet all program entrance requirements are eligible to participate in the Cava2College program. The college has agreed to waive the enrollment fee, health fee, and any tuition costs.
*The K12 high school catalog is a complete list of the high school courses K12 provides. While CAVA offers a comprehensive selection of courses, not every K12 high school course is available to CAVA students. Information on specific courses of study and available electives are provided upon enrollment. For details, please speak to an enrollment consultant during the enrollment process.
**Many Microsoft®️ Office certificates can be earned after completing one course. Other certificates require more classes to be better prepared, and students who participate in the program for at least two years will have further preparation for certification testing.
