CAVA Families Connect at Back-to-School Park Days Across California

Stories & Spotlights

The California Virtual Academies (CAVA) community kicked off the school year with Back-to-School Park Day events on September 4. The events drew 1,295 attendees at 35 locations throughout California to enjoy games, meet school staff and connect with other families.

Teachers and staff led activities that brought students together and encouraged them to get to know one another. Families met others in their area and connected with the educators who support their children. The afternoon was an opportunity to build relationships close to home and celebrate the year ahead.

“We want our students and families to feel they belong at CAVA,” said Leah Fellows, director of engagement and community at CAVA. “Park Day gives them a chance to meet classmates, connect with teachers and get to know other families nearby. Those relationships help students feel supported as they begin the school year.”

Park Day is an opportunity to strengthen connections within the school. A conversation with a teacher or an introduction to another family can help make the new school year feel more familiar. These local gatherings gave families across the state a sense of community.

Families also shared photos and videos from their events. One family said, “We had such a fun time! Thank you to the teachers who planned a fun day!”

We thank teachers and staff for organizing Park Day and everyone who joined us. We look forward to more opportunities to connect throughout the school year.
