From Challenge to Confidence: Jessica’s Reel Me Journey 

Jessica was not sure what to expect when she enrolled at California Virtual Academies (CAVA) in 2021. What began as a new way to continue her education during a difficult time quickly turned into one of the most rewarding experiences of her life. Jessica shared her story through the K12 Reel Me competition during her senior year and was selected as a winner for how she captured her growth and success through online learning. 

Jessica quickly discovered CAVA offered her the tools and guidance she needed to succeed. “The classes were very engaging, and the atmosphere was the most positive I have ever experienced,” she said. Jessica gained confidence in her ability to manage her own learning with the support of her teachers. She developed independence, learned how to stay organized, and built skills to prepare for life after high school. 

Jessica found time beyond her studies to explore her creativity and pursue new interests. She began painting and creating digital art, collaborated with her sister to illustrate a book for an art exhibit, and gained hands-on experience in photography and video recording while helping at her future university’s music department. These opportunities allowed her to balance academics with her passions and inspired her to dream bigger for the future. 

Today, Jessica is pursuing a degree in biomedical science with the goal of becoming a doctor. She continues to create art and sees it as an important part of her life, but she is also excited to dedicate herself to a career where she helps others. Jessica credits CAVA with providing the support and encouragement for her personal and academic growth.  

“Online learning gives you support, independence, and the ability to make your own choices,” said Jessica. “It really prepares you for what comes next.” 

Jessica’s story is a celebration of how CAVA helps students unlock their potential and build the confidence to follow their dreams.
