Congratulations to the CAVA Winners of the 2024 K12 Photography Competition
The 2024 K12 Photography Competition boasted more than 12,000 entries from talented students nationwide. Over 1,000 of those submissions were from students at California Virtual Academies.
This annual competition celebrates the artistic skills of kindergarten through 12th grade students and provides a platform for them to showcase their unique perspectives through the camera lens.
A total of $20,000 in cash prizes were awarded to this year’s winners! In each grade level, the 1st place winner received $1,000, the 2nd place winner took home $500, and the People’s Choice winner—selected through public voting—earned $100.
We’re incredibly proud of every student who participated, whether as a first-time competitor or a seasoned photographer. Even more exciting, we are thrilled to announce that six of our students from California Virtual Academies were among the winners!
Join us in congratulating these exceptional young photographers:

“I took this picture with my GoPro while snorkeling in Wailea, Hawaii on Maui. I was snorkeling not too far from the shore, and this turtle came up and swam next to me. He had some fish friends with him. It always feels so magical when the turtles come swim with you. They are unbothered and move so gracefully.”
Ilknur, CAVA San Mateo
People’s Choice Winner, 11th Grade
“Shasta Lake, located in Northern California, is the state’s largest reservoir and a true gem in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. Shasta Lake is the third-largest body of water in California after Lake Tahoe and the Salton Sea. The lake was formed by the construction of the Shasta Dam on the Sacramento River in the 1940s. Beneath Shasta Lake lies the ghost town of Kennett, once a bustling mining town. When the dam was built and the lake filled, Kennett was submerged, and today, it remains hidden under the lake’s waters.(This picture was taken by me in an iPhone 13 pro max)”
We couldn’t be prouder of our talented students for their incredible achievements in this year’s competition. Their unique vision and dedication truly shined in their photography, and we can’t wait to see how they continue to evolve and flourish as artists.
At California Virtual Academies, we’re committed to providing opportunities for our students to explore their talents and passions. The success of our participants in the K12 Photography Competition is a true testament to that. We can’t wait to see even more inspiring entries in future competitions!
